[Updated] SPAM is dumb

Posted by Doomshammer on Monday, December 19. 2005 at 23:31 in Computer, English only, Linux/Unix, Privat, Web

As you can see, there is a new button in my button bar.

Edit:
Thanks to Renegade for the german version of this button :-)

This is a new project of mine. I built a little spamtrap domain, which
will never get used for sending mail. It's just a receiving domain. The
button links to http://this.is-dumb.de
which holds a little script, that randomly creates @this.is-dumb.de
mail addresses. All mail sent to this addresses will be caught by the
spamtrap and feed to SpamCop, and some other blacklists.

If you like to, add a link to this page on your site, so that many spam bots get the link and send a lot of SPAM to the trap :-)

*Hi,

wouldn't it be better instead of including the http web address, including an email address with that domain? Or even more fun: Include a fictive email address with ones own domain and setup a server side automatic forwarding for that address to the dump domain? This would only mean that you do not only catch your random generated adresses, but any email adressed to this dump domain.

*Hi Sigfried,

yeah, I publish random mail addresses also with every usenet post i publish. Every post gets a:

--
Send no mail to: biyggovii@this.is-dumb.de

attached. :-)

But I didn't get the point with the fictive email address - what do you mean exactly?

*Hi,

simple. At least in Germany we have to include an "Impressum" which has to contain a real e-mail address. And this address has to be in text format.

Now the idea is to include another e-mail address on the same page with the same domain and an existing but never used user part. Let's assume my real e-mail address would be: siegfried@somewhere.de. Then i include another e-mail address of f.ex. Uhlenspiegel@somewhere.de, and add this entry to my account and my web page. This could not be verified by any software in the world as a spam trap (as could be the fixed domain this.is-dump.com). On the provider side i install that e-mail address as an automatic forward to your spam trap domain with some username, f.ex. siegfried@this.id-dump.com. Now the address (the secondary) included on my web page would be an existing one out of my own domain, undistinguishable from any real address, but ficitve as i never would get any e-mail sent to that address. E-mail to this address is per definition spam, cause i will never use it, and it will be included on the page in a way that human visitors won't use this for sending e-mail.

Additionally: It would be quite easy for an e-mail address harvester to assume a spam-trap if it finds a web-page just full of e-mail adresses without any other content. So the e-mail addresses pointing to your spam-trap must be within regular content and must be indestinguishable from normal valid e-mail addresses.

*Hi,

just for clarity, i have set up this type of e-mail address, for now on my start page: http://www.rorkvell.de/

Down in the footer you will find your button. Check the link. It should point to Uhlenspiegel@rorkvell.de, the title says "no mail to!". Any mail sent to this address is automatically forwarded by the server to siegfried@this.is-dump.de, so i never will get that mail.

Regards
Siegfried

Ist die Lösung frei verfügbar, d.h. kannst du sie mir zur Verfügung stellen, damit ich sie bei mir implementieren kann? Ich hab da auch noch so ein paar Domains rumfahren...
