New shell.fm-cmus release

Posted by Doomshammer on Wednesday, April 19. 2006 at 00:13 in Anwendungen, English only, Linux/Unix, Musik, Privat

I (and also bho) noticed a bug within my cmus last.fm plugin. If a song gets paused in cmus or unpaused, the song was re-submitted to last.fm and it was counted twice or more times.

I also added a option to disable the submission to last.fm if you wanna use the script for local-use only. As I figured out the my script handles the data provided by cmus much better as the script shipped with cmus (/usr/share/doc/cmus/examples/cmus-status-display).

Thanks bho for the bug report! :-)

Relese 1.5:
- Bugfix: When a song was paused in cmus or unpaused, it was
re-submitted to last.fm and counted twice or even more times.
To avoid this, a status file is generated and the old and
the new status will be compared.
(Thanks to bho for informing me about this bug)
- Added "tolastfm" option to let the user decide if the song
informations will be sent to last.fm
- Some cosmetical corrections

As most of you know, I've written a little perl script, to let cmus submit it's currently played song to last.fm. Read about it here and here. As I still get mails about when a new release will come and also some bug reports, I wanna let you know, that I

*This is a nice plugin, but it doesn't respect the last.fm submission rules (and it would be hard to do so in cmus.) You are supposed to submit the song

if it's 30 seconds or longer
only submit it when you are 240 seconds into the song, or halfway through, whichever comes first. (Currently shell.fm seems to submit immediately when the song is started.)
* do not submit if the song is seeked within that time period.
